Darien
Everything in Darien is very expensive: one dollar for a bath, or a dollar for a haircut. While in Darien there is time to rest a few days before heading for the United States.
Colon
You venture down the unpaved, garbage lined streets of Colon. The smell of the refuse is awful because of the intense heat.
There is a train leaving soon for Darien, so you leave Colon. As you look out the window at the trees and flowers in the tropical forest you learn how beautiful Panama is.
You plan to take another ship, the Orizaba, which is on her way to San Francisco. On the day you are leaving, you see a coat in a merchant's shop and he is charging $10 for it. He assures you it is the best quality, and you will need a coat in the Cariboo, but it costs many days pay. Do you want to buy the coat?
